Visa Requirements for U.S. Citizens

The government of Malawi requires proof of yellow fever vaccination upon arrival. Please review the  Center for Disease Control website for a listing of countries with risk of yellow fever virus transmission.

Malawi e-Visa

The Malawi e-Visa is an official document which permits entry within Malawi. The applicant can get their visas after providing the required details and making an online payment.   Travel the World Visas will be able to assist with the e-visa application, email us all the required documents to brigitte@world-visa.com

The e-Visa system will inform you through email after your visa application is submitted. After the necessary processing, the decision will be made on approval of the application. Once your visa is approved, you will receive an email and approval letter. The Visa approval letter must be shown to the Passport control counter at ports of entry for verification. A copy of e-Visa approval letter is mandatory before travelling to Malawi.Based on the inspection and verification, the Malawian officials at the ports of entry reserves the right to deny entry into Malawi to a holder of an e-Visa with no explanation.

Malawi Visa Types

  • Tourist Visa

    It is a visa which is strictly issued to persons intending to enter Malawi for visits, residence or business.

  • Official Visa

    It is a visa issued to a person holding an official or a service passport on official business visit to Malawi.

  • Transit Visa

    It is a visa which is strictly issued to persons intending to transit through Malawi within a period of seven days.

  • Diplomatic Visa

    It is a visa which is issued to a person holding a diplomatic passport for official visit or mission to Malawi.

  • Courtesy Visa

    It is a visa issued to a person visiting Malawi with an invitation sent by the Government, but is not entitled to a diplomatic passport. It enables him/her to enter Malawi for the purpose of paying courtesy calls.

Note:
» The above mentioned types of visas can further be classified into single entry, multiple entry and transit entry depending on the nature of the visit.
» The single entry visa is valid for three months and can be used once upon entry into Malawi.
» The multiple entry visas are valid for six or twelve months and can be used for multiple entries within the validity period.
» The transit visa is valid for a period not exceeding seven days and can be used once.
The following documents are required for Visa Application – TOURIST
  • Recent Photograph
    • Photo must be in color;
    • Photo should be NOT older than 6 months;
    • Face expression must be i neutral and NO reflection on face;
    • Photograph cropped from passport bio-page is NOT acceptable;
    • The background should be uniform (plain white background);
    • Photo dimension : 4.5 cm by 3.5 cm;
    • Visa application may be REJECTED if the uploaded PHOTO is not as per specification.
  • Passport Copy (Bio Data Page) – The Travel document should be valid for 180 days and bear at least 2 blank pages
  • Covering letter from the host in Malawi (Must be signed by Host)
  • Covering letter from Agent or Accommodation booking (Must be signed by Agent)

  • Single entry US$50
  • Multiple entry for 6 months US$150
  • Multiple entry for 12 months US$250
Validity of Visa approval: 90 days (from the day it was granted), maximum stay 30 days per entry.
